| JOICFP Raises Awareness among
Rotarians
On 25th May, the Rotarian Fellowship for Population and Development
(RFPD) held its annual
general meeting in Osaka. As well as the worldwide situation
of population growth, the participants discussed the aging
of society and the impact of low fertility in Asia, including
Japan.
Richard Snyder, Deputy Director, Information External Relations
Division, UNFPA, delivered a keynote speech on "Cairo
+ 10, the Achievements and Further Challenges in Population
and Development." This was followed by a panel discussion
moderated by Sumie Ishii, Executive Director, JOICFP, under
the title of "Population and the Future of the Earth."
Panelists included Dr. Seung Wook Lee, Professor, School of
Public Health, Seoul National University, and Dr. Seiichi
Matsumoto, President, Japan Family Planning Association.
As a result of this meeting, JOICFP expects Rotarians in
Japan to be more aware of the diversity of issues concerning
population and development other than those of aging.
