Launching New Projects in China and Nicaragua

In January 2006, JOICFP started new JICA-supported technical cooperation projects in China and Nicaragua.

In China, the "People's Participatory Poverty Reduction Model Project in Daozhen and Leishan Counties, Guizhou Province (November 2005 - March 2009)" aims to formulate a model for poverty reduction through comprehensive approaches. Based on the achievements gained from the preceding JICA-supported project in Sandu County, Guizhou Province, implemented by the China Family Planning Association in collaboration with JOICFP, the new project will fully utilize the experience accumulated through the activities, e.g. parasite control, women's health, women's income generation, eco-farming, etc. and further develop expertise that can be applied to the broader areas in Guizhou Province.

JOICFP will closely work with the counterpart, the National Population & Family Planning Commission (NPFPC).

In Nicaragua, the project entitled "Strengthening Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) (January 2006 - December 2009)", covering Granada and Boaco Departments (administrative areas similar to provinces), aims to improve adolescent reproductive health (ARH), and to formulate a model for ARH promotion through the project to benefit the national health plan for further improvement of ARH in the country.

After 4 years of implementation in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Government of Nicaragua, the youths in Granada and Boaco are expected to become empowered with proper knowledge and with high-quality healthcare services so that they can make appropriate decisions and take action.

The network for the promotion and prevention of ARH will also be reinforced among schools, regions, NGOs, other relevant agencies, etc., and the ARH management system at the Ministry and Department level will be strengthened for the effective implementation of ARH activities.

To achieve the objectives, JOICFP will utilize its resources and experience accumulated in countries in Latin America and Asia regions, such as Mexico and the Philippines, where the youths have been actively playing a central role for RH promotion.
