UNFPA on Japanese Partnership in Cambodia

On 1st February 2006, Bettina Maas, Representative, UNFPA Cambodia, visited JOICFP for the first time to exchange information and learn about JOICFP's activities and projects. She met with staff from related groups, and also was informed about recent trends in Japanese ODA.

Maas shared the current situation of the health sector in Cambodia, information on the 3rd UNFPA Country Program that was approved in January 2006, and the challenges and future perspectives of UNFPA Cambodia.

Maas emphasized the need for close partnership with the Japanese government and NGOs, including JOICFP, especially in the area of adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) since 60% of Cambodia's population is under 24 years old.

The EU/UNFPA RHIYA Project will soon be phased out and ASRH will need more support in Cambodia.
