| New Estimate of Japan's Population
Crash
On 3rd February, the Japan Aging Research Center (JARC) reported
that at current trends in fertility the population of Japan
will have declined to 88.33 million by 2050.
JARC comprises demographic experts, and their projection
is markedly lower that of the National Institute of Population
and Social Security research whose estimate for the 2050 population
is 100.59 million.
The projection by JARC is based on the fertility rate in
Japan continuing to decline from 1.28 in 2004 to 1.16 by 2020.
At this rate, JARC predicts the population of Japan will
fall from 126.12 million in July 2005 to:
| 100.05 million |
2040 |
| 94.15 million |
2045 |
| 88.33 million |
2050 |
