Since 1984, JOICFP has been implementing the Integrated Project (IP) approach in China, combining maternal and child health with parasite control and later family health and reproductive health.
Community people came to recognize the need to take action on their own to protect their health, and actively participated in bettering their lives, such as through improving sanitation with new water and toilet facilities.
In many project areas, people constructed biogas tanks to produce methane for cooking and lighting, and producing clean organic fertilizer.
Farmers were not only able to improve their health but also save money on fuel and agrochemicals.
Women benefited as methane used for cooking does not produce smoke and they did not have to gather firewood, helping preserve the environment.
From its origin, the IP has developed to meet the changing needs of the people, bearing in mind sustainability and environmental protection.
