Activities
The project in Cambodia was implemented at two communes in Kampong Cham Province. Forty-eight youth initiators (both men and female) aged 16–23 years were recruited at the project sites. A Community Adult Support Team (CAST) was also established with respected members in the community. With voices and actual stories on ASRH collected from the community, youth initiators and CAST members developed advocacy messages and various communication tools to appeal to provincial/district/commune-level policy and decision makers, as well as parents and young people themselves.
Achievements
As a result of the advocacy efforts by youth initiators and CAST members, ASRH education was successfully included in the Commune Development Plan for the year 2008, and a resolution was passed by the Health Center Management Committee to make the user fee free for young people at the Health Center at the project sites. Another significant achievement of the advocacy efforts is that the support of influential adults for ASRH has encouraged more mothers to bring their children to the health centers and to improve their own health-seeking behavior.
